Chapter 7

“Supernova”

LUMINARY SOLSTICE (speaking aloud, his voice shaky) “They… they’re wrong. This doesn’t make sense. I’ve worked harder than anyone here. I’ve built everything from the ground up—my brand, my success, it’s all mine. I deserve this.”

ONYX (appearing beside him, cold) “Do you? Do you really deserve it? Or have you just been lucky enough to sit at the top of a broken system, a system designed to protect people like you and crush everyone else?”

LUMINARY SOLSTICE “I don’t need a lecture, Onyx. I earned my place. The strong rise to the top, if they wanted my spot they should've worked harder!””

ONYX “ That’s what you’ve been told! That if you’re good enough, you rise. If you work hard enough, you get what you deserve. The system was never designed for you to succeed because of your talent, Luminary. It was designed for you to succeed because you were born into it—because you were born into the right class, with the right connections. The system protects people like you and leaves everyone else to rot.”

LUMINARY SOLSTICE (voice trembling, conflicted) “You think I don’t know what’s happening out there? You think I’m blind to it? I’ve seen the workers, I’ve seen the poverty. But what am I supposed to do? The world is what it is. I don’t have the power to change it. We live in a world where the strong survive, and the weak don’t. That’s just the way it is.”

ONYX (voice quiet but forceful) “It’s not about being better, Luminary. It’s about control. They’ve sold you the myth of neoliberalism to keep you in line. It’s all about keeping you complacent, while they take in the profits and keep the rest of us down. The longer you ignore that, the more you’re complicit in the system. The revolution isn’t just about tearing down the elite—it’s about tearing down that lie. It’s about creating a world where people like you don’t get to decide who lives and who dies, based on who’s in the ‘right place.’”

LUMINARY SOLSTICE (trembling, realizing the depth of his complicity) “What do I do now?”

ONYX “You use that capsule for good.”
